My student loans were supposed to be deferred and weren’t- help!

Hi all,

My student loans from the college I transferred from were supposed to remain in deferment since I am still a student. When I had checked my account back in November, my servicing company said that I probably wouldn’t have to submit anything and that the deferment would happen automatically. It seems like my new college never reported my enrollment in January so now I’m left with a balance of over $5,000.

I’ve seen about retroactive deferment but I’m wondering if I will still have to pay off the balance owed if I have my current college manually submit that I’m a student. Has anyone else experienced this?
