I’m a student graduating this month. I don’t make anything currently, but my husband has had a job for a while. We filed 2025 taxes jointly.

I’m not sure if I found a monthly-payment-reducing technical loophole or if it’s illegal. Please advise.

When filing for IDR, it’ll ask if my income has changed since last tax filing. Technically, my 2025 taxes look like I have income (my husband’s), but I personally do not have any income, so could I say yes and then self-report no income?

If it had asked if my household income has changed since last filing, self-reporting zero income would be a total lie. But it doesn’t ask that.

Does this wording warrant self-reporting, or am I dancing with fraud?

    Self-reporting income for IDR?

Because you filed house hold taxes jointly for 2025, you must report household income.
