Hi,

I had insurance with travelers insurance through a broker and I switched insurances on April 20th to a different broker because I got a new car and it was cheaper to switch. My old broker had me sign a Docusign regarding the cancellation and it showed the cancellation effective April 20th. When I log into the travelers site it still shows both my condo and auto insurance as still active though as of today. I paid my Auto Insurance in full upfront on March 1st and my escrow paid my Condo insurance in March as well so I should be getting a pro rated refund and I also unfortunately have an escrow shortage because they already paid it and they paid my new insurance premium as well. My old broker unfortunately isn’t very helpful and just says that they can’t speed up the cancellation. How long does this process normally take for the cancellation to show and to get a refund? Tried to call Travelers insurance as well but they are redirecting me to my old broker unfortunately.

    Thank you

    Old Insurance still showing active

Your new agent is your go to for this. (This is a controversial opinion on r/insuranceagents) Some agents will say that cancelation of the previous policy is on you and this is your problem. To me, my customers are my responsibility and I will help them handle their cancelations if they get any flack. Once cancelation forms are filled out and sent, if nothing happens by the time it is supposed to that is when calls get made to regional offices, compliance offices, then attorneys and insurance commissioners.

TLDR, let your new agent know about this situation, if they are not fighting for you, consider a new agent.

    2. Just contact your old broker and let them know it is still active. If it is just a condo policy and auto, it only takes them a couple clicks to cancel your policy and usually updates by the next business day. However if the online portal is having some issues then he has to submit the request via email to agent services and it only takes 1-2 days at most to process since those are processed by overseas clerical workers. Either way, it will get processed and they will honor the requested cancellation date. Agents at able to backdate up to 60-90 days without having to provide any documentation

Can also provide it to your new broker and have him submit the loss policy release
