Heeey gang! This is long but I want to be clear and I have ADHD, which you will be able to tell in no time 😁😌🪭
May 2025- my car was parked at a store while I was shopping and some person in a truck, drove ACROSS this concrete sandy medium that had shopping carts ave cars, and they struck the front passenger side of my car and another car- then took off. Police report was filed with VERY CLEAR video of my car being hit. I was asked about pressing charges (Hell yea I’m pressing charges).
Fast Forward…
December 2025- I get a random call from a detective letting me know that they were finally able to find the person responsible for damaging my car and gave me the insurance information which is with Progressive 🙃
Get the claim filed, the person who hit me disputed the claim stating I just want a payout (Bruh I was in Walmart shopping in the clearance section for fun- bye 🙄). Had to wait a while for multiple police depts to release all of the investigation info/footage etc. to the insurance company.
February-March 2026- I get a call that all is well and their customer is at fault. Then I’m told someone from ANOTHER dept would be contacting me to get things setup for repairs. Weeks pass- I was also in the middle of moving so repairs had to wait a minute. Take my car to the shop, they put me in a rental, and said all would be done in a week. Great! Pick my car up and start talking to the body shop manager about Diminished Value. He tells me to drive right across the road (coincidentally where I bought my car) and have them give me a complete estimate for its value. Got that done- they offered me $12K. I contact the lady that setup the repairs and told her I had an estimate for the cars value sans an accident. I ask her for the 4th time- so what is needed for me to proceed with a diminished value claim. She skirted it- okay say less. I called back, she was busy so I spoke to another agent and Bob said (We love Bob y’all ❤️) he didn’t know why she was acting stupid when her entire role is to work with m diminished value claims and repairs. So I’m like good looking out Bob! He tells me not to worry, he was adding some notes into her internal diary about getting her job done which management would have access to 😁
Thanks to Bob- I got a phone call back in 10mins and she says “Oh so you wanted to file a claim for diminished value?” I’m like Bihhhh what?!?! I’ve been saying that since the first phone call. She acted oblivious, said there were things she needed to further look into on her end and would call me in a week.
May 1st- Today is that week.
Okay so THIS is where I truly believe this is some kind of setup or she’s playing me for a fool because she says “Well how much do you want us to give you?” I said excuse me?!?! Shouldn’t y’all be working that out?? So I asked what are the parameters for making that determination….. y’all she legit says “You just throw out a number to me and I’ll see if we can do it or not.” Whet?? This does not compute to me at TF all. So PLEASE someone with knowledge in this- break this down to me because her just saying to throw out ANY number is ludicrous!!! I told her she’s now going to give me until Monday to further research this because she’s refusing to educate me on their process and what should be included for this claim-Reddit is my research btw 🤓. So please help me with this.
Is this normal and/or make sense?!?! And this sucks that I’m trying to save this damn company from overpaying when I truly should not care 🥲😒
***And as of a week ago I was able to sell my vehicle for more than the dealerships original estimated value ($13,200)- BUT that was with the car being fully repaired and no issues.
Y’all… this diminished value claim feels like a trap
