Since my parents are retiring soon and will be using my the cards I signed up for them and I'm the one paying for the card bills anyway…
I feel like I should be allowed to be checking all of my family's card statements, downloading everything, converting to excel and try to sort for the expensive items. I also try to (hopefully) be able to just sniff out suspicious transactions by eyeballing every line item.
It'll be a slight hassle to do this, but I feel that I should do it for my less-savvy folks. With my future wife, I hope that she will be someone who's also financially savvy and wants to do these together with me – budget tracking, finding joy in getting credit card rewards while treating ourselves to good things sometimes.
What about you guys? Do you and your spouse do something like this every month and look at these together? Or are you entrusted with this task of checking + paying?
Is there a good way to bring this up, or some methods to make this process more efficient?
💳 Is it common practice for you to manage your partner's or household's credit cards and payments?

I actually got a bit concerned when I saw a CSP in my mom’s wallet. I did a brief overview with her to make sure she understood the card and that she has the option of downgrading to a free one after the first year. Even if she doesn’t, its $95 AF so it isn’t like she’ll be in the poor house.
My partner wants to keep her financial life simple. I got her to sign up for one card with my referral once, but she ended up cancelling the card within 24 hours. She just didn’t want to deal with another bank log in.
I have primary responsibility for this in my house but my spouse is aware of it. We share all of our logins etc. All of our credit cards and accounts are set up with a budget aggregator (we use YNAB) which is how I monitor it. Autopay is on every card. We are churners with 25-30 open cards; I need to do some gardening this year. It works for us.
I manage it all because my P2 isn’t into the churning process but loves the payoff
I do 100% of the card work for my house.
I’m the primary earner in our family as well as the primary bill payer, budget tracker, and financial planner. My wife is glad not to do those things.
She’s my P2, but I handle all the sign ups and SUBs. I just occasionally give her a new card to spend on or ask her to consult me before big purchases so they can be routed appropriately.
I also help my mom review her investments and discourage her from churning like I do since retired folks have less room for error when they don’t have income.
Excuse the morbidly l, but make sure at least one card is in their name. Your cards get closed when you die, even if they were an AU. Joint cards (which are rather rare nowadays) don’t have this issue.
I manage all our finances but I’m at BankA while my spouse is at BankB. Our brokerage is where retirement and cash management accounts reside. We use their aggregator to see everything easily.
ah yes the pinnacle of romance dreaming about a woman using credit cards
