I’m currently using the Amex Preferred card. In 2025, I spent about $49,000 on it based on my annual summary. I also have supplementary cards for my family, so we use it for most household expenses.
I feel like I’m not really maximizing the credit card rewards system. I only have around $1,100 in cashback/rewards, which seems low given the amount we spend.
I’m interested in switching to,a travel card because I fly at least 3 times per year, including both domestic and international trips. I also want to feel that upgrade in airlines sometimes, I’d also book family travel on my card whenever we travel together.
A few questions:
-
Is the Amex Cobalt still a good deal in Canada?
-
Would it make sense to switch from a cashback setup to Membership Rewards/travel points?
-
What card combination would you recommend for someone with \~$49k annual household spend?
4 Should I keep my current Amex card, replace it, or pair it with another Visa/Mastercard for places that don’t accept Amex? I’m paying $9.99 per month in this card.
I pay my credit card in full every month, so it’s not stacking up interest.
(Canada) What credit card do you use?
