Grad student (25+) in Michigan here.

Getting a used Honda Accord 2021, cash deal, never had a car before but had my DL for 2 years, clean record ofc, decent credit score.

Car is in fine condition and has had a clean history as well.

Why am I getting ridiculous quotes from progressive/state farm! Progressive just quoted me 442 a month that too for 6 month total, enrolled in safe driving app. All my friends use progressive and pay ~160/month for same level of coverage. Why does progressive do this to me!

Clean record, 25+, quoted 442$/month for comprehensive!!

Have continuous coverage for 6 months and rate will drop. Dont ever let it lapse.

What your friends are paying is irrelevant. They don’t have your risk factors. You have very little driving experience and no insurance history. Both of those are going to come with surcharges. Plus you’re in one of the most expensive states for auto insurance.

    4. Being over 25 doesn’t automatically drop your rates. The reason why it’s a thing is because if you were to get your license at 16 you would have close to 10 years of driving experience and thus 10 years of history to make a calculated risk assessment. There are plenty of other factors that feed into the 25 year old narrative based on historical social norms which many do not apply now.
