China is extremely dependent on foreign importations of food/expanding overseas agricultural holdings. If the chinese wish to reach self sufficiency, the move towards a more western diet might have to be repressed.
Having thousands of square miles of land to exploit in Africa or Latin America will become a hot button issue in those countries, one that China will increasingly need to defuse by mingling into internal affairs and projecting coertion.
So this way of combatting foreign dependency at the end of the day might presents dangerous ramifications for world security and for the tensions within the system. As we know in the West, it is hard to restrain people on what they eat.
