I checked my area and like half of the restaurants I regularly use are covered by this for 5% cash back.

Per my understanding, I can get my normal restaurant cash back + this 5%. Is there really no catch here? I’m kicking myself for not enabling this earlier but this seems like a cheat code. I might get an Amex card solely to be able to convert these points to MR points.

    1. Yep. You simply add your card. You’ll get your usual card cash back multipliers and a few days (2 days to get pending, 2 days after to have it confirmed) later you get the extra 5x points/5% cash back in your rakuten account.
I also made the mistake of not activating this months ago when I signed up for rakuten.

Also, bear in mind that online ordering doesn’t qualify. Other Rewards Network programs (such as airline miles dining programs) do allow for online ordering, so I ultimately went with American Airlines miles at 5x instead of Rakuten because I order online for pickup a lot. Ymmv.

You just gotta activate this in rakuten or something? New to rakuten lol

It’s genuine. Get an Amex Gold, dining there becomes a 9x points earner, which is incredible value.
