Hello i’m a 21 year old college student. I’ve been thinking about a credit card for a couple years now. My dad supports me financially which i’m very grateful for but the older i’m getting the more i’m thinking i should start building credit. My dad has always told me not to because I don’t need it. He says the best credit is no credit and that the only time credit matters is when buying a car, house, etc. and that I can just open a card when I need one for those purposes and i’ll be fine. As i said, i’m 21 and i have 2 years of college left. I live with a friend and we split rent with my dad’s support. I’m unemployed as i’m a full time student and don’t need a job rn with the financial support I get. Would it be a good idea to get a credit card for gas, grocery, school payments, etc for building credit? I’m just concerned that when I finish college and start working it may be hard to find a place to live or buy a new car without credit if mine crapped out on me. Should i build credit now or am I falling for the “credit pyramid scheme” lol.

    Have I been steered wrong?
