So as many of you know, on May 1st the Department of Education published final guidelines on the upcoming federal student loan system changes that will go into effect as of July 1st, 2026 (/u/betsy514, your input would be sincerely appreciated).

One aspect I've been particularly curious about pertains to which dual degree students will actually be considered GradPlus legacy borrowers. Here is a blurb from the guidelines that were published on May 1st:

"“If the dual degree program is considered one program that grants two degrees upon completion…”

So for graduate students in particular, what kinds of dual degree students would actually qualify for legacy GradPlus borrower status?

Would it just be students enrolled in established dual degree programs such as MD/MPH, MD/MBA, MBA/JD, etc.? Or would any student who is enrolled in a university-approved dual degree arrangement qualify (e.g., a student who has received approval from both degree-granting departments to enroll concurrently in two otherwise unrelated degrees, such as an MHA in Art History and an MS in Biology)?

    Thanks

Clarification on getting Grad Plus legacy borrower status as a dual-degree student?
