So I got Credit Karma to get a credit card thru them, and I saw a message that I have an overdue balance with capital one. Let me add I am 19, and have never had a credit card nor looked at credit cards from capital one. I submitted a dispute thru Credit Karma but is there anything else I can do sense this is impacting my credit?

Due balance on a credit card I never opened?

Do you have a Capital One account? Their support would be more helpful than going through Credit Karma.

Potentially identity theft, (https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/wiki/identity_theft/) potentially some mistake involving someone with the same name, either way credit karma won’t have all the answers, you need to call capital one to dispute the bill and probably claim it’s fraud if it isn’t some mistake on your end. That could require filing a police report.

Is there any way someone might have opened a card in your name? A parent or guardian?

Go directly to the credit reporting agencies and get credit report directly. (Directions at annualcreditreport.com)

If you have a fraudulent account check the r/personalfinance wiki for directions.

Then open accounts at all three big credit agencies and freeze (not lock) your credit accounts.

You could be an Authorized User (AU) on a card that is own by your parents or a family member. To confirm, pull your credit from annualcreditreport.com
