I’m the executor for my parent’s estate and I’m preparing to sell their home. I’ve been appointed by the court in accordance to their wills and the probate attorney has indicated that I vacancy proceed with the sales of their property. I was the POA and managing their finances, bills, and care for the last few years. I’m in regular contact with the other heirs, my brothers, and they are just as eager to move forward with all the things to wrap up the estate – it’s been a long few years.

We purchased our first home 30 years ago and have stayed put so I’m really in the dark here. I did assist my Dad in selling farm property last year and the year before, but he had already started the process for the first tract and we sold their remainder to his brother. No agents involved with that second one.

I’m meeting with a realtor this afternoon at the property. What should I look for? What should I ask? Any help here is much appreciated.

I would hire a reputable appraiser that can give you an appraisal on the home in it’s as is condition as well as point out any issues that may prevent it going FHA/VA etc.

Then take that report and data and use it in conjunction with the agent. I also suggest interviewing a couple agents in the area.
