Advice – first ever claim (NRMA)

Hi all

Took out a brick wall in my car and will need to make my first ever insurance claim since the cost of replacing both passenger door panels and front fender far exceeds the excess.

I don’t have choice or repairer or hire car (because who ever thinks they’re going to crash their car)

Just wondering when I make the claim and they make me take it to their repairers – will the repairers keep my car all the way from assessment – repair (scared it might be months) or can I get it back in the mean time. Feel like I don’t have any adults to ask.
