I was in a motor vehicle accident.

My adjuster sent me a valuation much lower than what I can purchase my vehicle (2025 year with low mileage – under 15k) for currently on market.

Yes, I understand there is a lower value as soon as you are off the lot but this is exponentially lower than that…I cannot purchase my same vehicle at trim level and level of mileage for the amount they are offering me.

I said no to the first offer. I came back with vehicles of same year, make, model, drive train and trim that are available for purchase within 100 miles of me with their VIN and included additional comps to prove same vehicle except lower trim or different drive train that were still available for purchase within designated radius were still higher than the valuation he provided me.

The adjuster came back (2x) and only offered $7 additional. I declined yet again.

The adjuster has now said they had to be SOLD within designated radius and VIN number available to verify purchase. Additionally, he changed the radius to 200 miles when on the phone. (I did not mention that he said it was originally 100 miles the first time he told me for my counter.)

I pushed back and said this was not stated in the initial conversation and I had found available vehicles for purchase matching exactly what he initially asked for with the criteria he asked for, same make/model, similar mileage, trim, drive train within the 100 miles that way it could be verified for purchase.

The adjuster said that its the average for which vehicles are sold…even though my average would be much higher based on the vehicles I provided. What is my next step here since I declined his second valuation?

I used all the parameters I was told and he keeps moving the goal posts on me.

I spoke to an acquaintance who used to work in auto insurance for a major company and she told me that she used to take KBB quotes.

My adjuster had said I could use online tools as long as they were within parameters. I did and now he's saying that was incorrect. I took notes over the phone and explicitly had that.

I will no longer have a conversation over the phone with him, I will only have it in writing. But my question is what do I do from here?

My comps (5) plus additional comps (3) i sent in were with vehicles available on the lots but even 30 miles from me fitting the exact description of what he said they could use. He's now saying they must be SOLD comps with VIN number but there's no way for me to get this information.

    1. Correct, comps must be sold vehicles. You can ask anything you want for an item for sale, that doesnt make it worth it.

That’s how comps work. Not based on asking price, but on actual sold vehicles and what they sold for.

Make sure your comp includes all taxes and tag fees. As that is a part of making you whole.
