Hi, I was wondering what the most logical solution to this problem would be! So I bought a house with 3 other roommates (4 total), the rent per month is $2400, so $600/person/month, the lease starts may. None of the original tenants are living in the house over the summer, however one of the tenants has a sister that is willing to live at the house from June-August. We are making her pay $600/month, but the tenant wants it to cover only her part instead of splitting the $600 amongst all 4 of us. My plan was to have the sister pay $600/month and subtract that from the total $2400 = $1800 and the four original tenants split the $1800 so $450/month, because we are all not staying there just the sister. Also this subletting plan is being done under the table. We are all friends, im a freshman idk what im doing, she was going to let her sister live there without discussing it with half of the other tenant. The room the sister is taking is supposed to be a shared room with me and the tenant.

The money should go to the person who’s room she is in

You other folks could find subletters too

Are you serious? Blood is thicker than water. They should pay $450 together while the rest of the four should split the $1950. Please stop the greed. If you can’t afford a house, then simply don’t buy it.

    3. I assume your lease is jointly and severally liable?

If so, this isnt really your problem. The 4 people on the lease owe you 2400 a month. How they decide to split it based on someones sister paying her rent is up to them.

If you have 4 leases, one for each person, then person 1 is covered, 2/3/4 still owe their portion
