I just booked a vacation and now I’m wondering the best way to take advantage of perks and protection. I’m still within the window for both to rebook so thinking I may move things around if needed. The primary cards I’m looking to use are the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the United Explorer card. I booked the hotel with the Chase Sapphire(did not use chase travel because it was a few hundred dollars more, negating the bonus points) and used the Explorer card to get the free checked bag for me and my wife.
Am I losing the travel protection by not using the same card for everything? The sapphire looks like it has much better travel protection for flights but saving the $240 on bags seemed like a good deal.

nah you’re good, protection usually ties to what card you used for that specific purchase. so your hotel protection comes from sapphire and flight stuff from explorer
the checked bag savings definitely worth it – $240 is solid chunk of change. most travel protections work per transaction anyway, not like everything needs to be in same card. just make sure you know which protections come with which purchase when you need to file claim later
explorer card should cover basic flight delays and cancellations since you bought ticket with it. sapphire gives you the hotel protections. only thing you might miss is if sapphire had some specific flight protection that’s way better, but for most people the bag fee savings probably outweighs that
