Hello,

Has anyone had their loans discharged for CPTSD? I was diagnosed in 2018 after losing my son and almost dying myself. I’ve been on meds / getting mental health support since but kind of realizing this experience had a permanent impact on mental and physical health. I still work 20 hours a week and have tried increasing but my brain stops working (cognitive limitations, including word finding).

I had 9 years towards PSLF when I ended up having to leave my job and I really want to work and kept thinking I’d return to full-time at my government job… but realizing this likely won’t happen and I’m bummed. I do want to work and money is tight with the new loan payments and I want to see if disability discharge is an option. I would continue to work 20ish hours a week. I don’t want to stop working. My current job doesn’t qualify for PSLF but is a good job and I’m unsure if I can work this job while also getting disability discharge (I’m a social worker).

Thank you and please be kind, I’m just exploring options and this is hard to ask.

So I’m somewhat in the same situation, I’m able to work occasional part time jobs, sometimes I’m not able to work at all for months at a time. I’ve taken the disability discharge paperwork to multiple of my doctors and they won’t fill it out because it requires them to say that I’m 100% disabled, which I’m not. There’s no in between either. You must be 100% disabled or nothing.
