I’m in Southern California and the insurance company is offering $20k for an accident that wasn't my fault. My medical bills are already at $15k. It feels like they are keeping the rest for "pain and interest." If I hire a firm that specializes in trials, will they actually be able to get a higher settlement, or will their fee just cancel it out?

If they’re good, you’ll probably fare better but it’s all case specific. If you hire a billboard lawyer, well, they’ll make money and you may or may not.
