Begrudgingly Cancelled my personal plat today. i enjoyed the card for what it was, especially delta/amex lounge benefits. but the coupon book aspect just started grinding my gears. and more annoying was how it started to restrict my purchases to their predetermined brands, while also technically increasing my base spending.

\*Found a cute cheap workout top? well no my lululemon credit is coming up got spend $75 on this t shirt instead.

\*Found a nice affordable hotel with everything i want? Well no it if i use this FHR credit i’ll only pay a little more for something nicer…

\*Cute restaurant i want to go to for dinner? Ugh but its not on resy i guess ill go to this other one i wasn’t planning on doing instead that’s only a little pricier.

\*think ill just make dinner tonight. oh wait my i have an uber eats credit better pick up pad thai instead…

i was fine with doing this for the SUB year, but i really want more freedom in my choices going forward. especially juggling other coupon book, high AF cards (palladium and CSR) i didn’t wanna keep this around just for mediocre lounge food

Had to cancel my Personal Plat. Between the annual fee and coupon book forcing increased spending, i just couldn’t do another year just for mediocre delta/amex lounge access.

    1. Yeah I’d say you are exactly the person the are targeting good to get out

Yeah if you’re forcing it this much then the card definitely isn’t for you. No point in trying to shove a square peg into a round hole.

    3. Oh good move if it turned into a source of annoying obsession and guilt. Goodbye

Fair enough, but I’m surprised you’re keeping the palladium and CSR if the coupon book aspect is your friction point. The Amex Plat arguably has the easiest to use coupon book compared to the other 2

I just did the same. It was a fun year of getting some “free” stuff but the more I thought about it, I was basically going to front load $900 to save money over the course of the year but only if I do very specific things.

2026 for me is about simplifying my set up and removing AF bloat!
