Wanted to provide a place to update for those who got the April forgiveness eligibility email with a deadline to opt-out by May 8th. To my shock, I received an email from Aidvantage May 10th stating my student loans had been forgiven and the official letter in my inbox was dated May 9th. My loan balance is $0 on the Aidvantage site, but not yet on studentaid.gov. The official letter states that any forgiveness prior to December 31, 2025, will not be federally taxed (state taxes may vary).
For context: I wasn’t sure if my forgiveness would process timely as the backend counter is still incorrect – listing me under new IBR instead of old IBR. I got approval to get back on the IBR plan end of January with hopes that would help with forgiveness as I had met the payment threshold with 302 payments. I received a letter a couple weeks ago from Aidvantage to confirm my address as a requirement to receiving a refund for any overpayments. I’m not sure what the refund amount will be, but I’m excited to find out!
I know it’s frustrating for those who are still waiting…I never thought this would happen for me. My loan repayment started in 2000, and I assumed I would keep paying for the rest of my life. There is light at the end of the tunnel!

Congratulations! I received the golden email in April and Edfinancial processed the discharge early this morning, May 11. Such a relief.
