Remember the Presidential campaign that was all about inflation?  Throw the bums out seemed to be the prevailing view.

Well buckle up because it’s only going to get worse from here.

Trump is the most incompetent President in my lifetime by a mile.  He will cause unthinkable damage for the next 3 years.

I like to pull the raw index values to compute the annualized changes over the prior month while adding an additional significant figure than what is in the headline report. The reason for this is that one significant digit (i.e. the 0.9% and 0.4% values in this report) isn’t precise enough to be meaningfully evaluated when annualized.

The annualized seasonally adjusted month-over-month changes CPI-U and core CPI-U are 8.0% and 4.6%, respectively. Those are horrible numbers. There is no reason the Fed shouldn’t raise rates. Those that oppose that have a short memory of the time it takes with rates at elevated levels to tame inflation or any idea how bad the economy falters when inflation is allowed to run.

Don’t need this report to tell me.  I am seeing prices all over the place right now.  It just seeps into everything slowly and erratically until you realize you have no money left every month buying food and shelter.

Iran has been preparing for this moment, they knew they couldn’t defeat the US head to head, but they could make things very uncomfortable financially. Economic war of attrition.

How did Joe Biden do this?! Was he wearing a tan suit?

Will the economy be the distraction from the Epstein files or the other way around this week?

      Tune in and find out!

We’re in a situation where an uncompromised federal reserve would obviously be raising rates. But we’re not because Trump thinks he can get the benefit of lower short term costs and won’t have to accept accountability for future inflation. After all, that’s what he did pushing for lower rates in 2019. Not like he took the slightest responsibility for rising prices in 2021.
