Hi I’ve been doing research and want to start a Roth IRA and then maybe next year start putting money in my deferred compensation at work. They don’t match. I have a pension that matches though and I max the match. I’m almost 50 but don’t make a lot.
Do I just go online and start a Roth IRA through fidelity or something? I have only about $1000 to start it? Or do I need to find a reputable broker, is that what they’re called? There’s not any scammers right? Thank you
How do I start a Roth IRA?

Choose between Fidelity, Schwab or Vanguard. Go to their site, create an account and open a Roth IRA. It is fairly straightforward. Once you open, you need to actually put money in and THEN actually invest it into something.
Fidelity was easy for me to set up.
