Im Gen Z, I'm 19. I'm currently doing an advanced degree program and I'm on track to graduating in two years with my Bachelors in Eduction after taking a gap year. I am lucky enough to have a max Pell Grant with a HOPE scholarship, so my student loans all together are only $1200, they are federal student loans so the interest isn't really high. But I've noticed a trend in my generation (and some millennials) saying they refuse to pay back federal student loans, which I completely understand not wanting to pay them because they are expensive. But I don't think anyone realizes if they take out federal student loans and they don't pay it back the government will not hesitate to garnish your wages. Not only that but your credit score will be so bad no one will even rent you a shed. No one will rent you a cardboard box. Like atleast do $50/month so the government doesnt ruin you. I have subsidized loans but I've been paying $15/month towards my student loans already and because of this my credit score is close to 800 at only 19.

I understand I am VERY privileged to have such low student loans, but I was also smart with what college I chose. I go to a local university but my entire degree program (besides student teaching) is online. People who complain their student loans are too high are also the people who go to incredibly expensive colleges/uni's or out of state. Personally, I believe it's because millennials/Gen X normalized going to college for fun instead of for an education so people are going to expensive party colleges and taking out $30K a year in student loans and not fully understanding how financies work.

Also I think Gen Z believes it matters where you graduate from, it really doesn't. The only time I think it matters where you got your degree from is if you plan on becoming a doctor or lawyer, otherwise employers don't really care. I've had friends that got a degree from like SNHU, WGU, and phoenix university and still got good jobs with a very nice salary.

I shouldn't have to say this on this sub reddit but pay your student loans or the government will catch up with you.

What's with Gen Z and refusing to pay *federal* student loans?
