So, a few weeks ago, I drve into a has stations parking lot and hit a massive unmarked pothole. It was night time and impossible to see.
It damaged the front bumper and probably a lot more underneath according to the collision center I brought it to for an estimate.
I personally believe that it should be comprehensive but I am also a bit biased cuz my deductibles are $500/$1000.
Bonus question: Should the gas station be at fault for not fixing it or making it visible in anyway?
Just wanted to see what people far more knowledgeable in the insurance world than myself hought.
Thanks!
Should I expect My Claim to Be Comprehensive or Collision?

Collision claim. Nothing about that would be comprehensive.
You are likely at fault and the gas station is not likely to be pursued by your insurance. If you wanted to try to sue the station for your deductible, feel free, I don’t expect that you would win.
Collision claim all day. Your vehicle collided with the ground which is why it’ll be considered collision. Comprehensive coverage is for everything not considered collision such as vehicle thefts or animal hits.
It’ll be an uphill battle for you to try and get the gas station to admit fault here. You were the one driving the vehicle when it was damaged.
Collision all day every day
This is very easily a collision claim. I don’t believe you’ll get very far in pursing the gas station for any of the damages.
It’s a collision loss.
Roadbed collision
100% collision.
If you hit a pothole on the street you could potentially be reimbursed by whomever maintains the street. But since you’re on private property, good luck.
