I’m going to try to keep this post as short as possible, but I want to say that the accident was 100% the other driver’s fault.

6 months ago, I was involved in 2 accidents in one week. I’m not a bad driver, just had really bad luck. Both accidents were deemed 100% the other drivers faults. The first accident was a minor fender bender and the second was pretty bad, with both cars being totaled and I broke my dominant hand. The car I was driving was my sister’s car (she was with me on our way to visit family) and her insurance claim was handled within a week for the car.

About 2 weeks after the accident, I tried calling the insurance agent who was handling my case. I’ll call this one insurance agent A. I tried to call, text, and email insurance agent A at least twice a week for 3 months with no response. I eventually left a voicemail with the claims department asking for a new agent (couldn’t get anyone on the phone with the claims line either).

Two days later, I received a text from insurance agent B asking about the accident. We texted for a few days before she completely stopped responding. I gave it some time, and at the end of the month (month 4 at this point) I tried reaching back out. At that point, insurance agent C responded saying the case had been reassigned to her. While I’m talking to her, she tells me she’s handling the case for my first accident (the fender bender) and not the bigger one! The whole time my agent has still been insurance agent A!!! So, I asked for the supervisor’s info for agent A.

I’ll call the supervisor insurance agent D. Insurance agent D was great because I started threatening to get an attorney. For the next month and a half ish, he struggled to get copies of my records and bills though. Eventually I went and got all of the copies myself and sent them in, which would’ve been about two weeks ago. Last Friday, insurance agent D calls me and tells me that he’s transferring departments and someone new will be handling my case, but I should have a claim offer by the end of this week!

Today, I received a call from a new agent, insurance agent E. She told me insurance agent A who I’ve never even spoken to is still my agent and I need to call him. I explained to her this whole story and she said she’d try to get him to call me, but he’s handling multiple cases right now, so it may be a few WEEKS. She gave me the contact info for his new supervisor, insurance agent F, in case I need it. I immediately called agent A and got his voicemail again, so I asked him to call me ASAP since we’re now 6 months post accident and I have $8,000 in medical bills to pay.

I’m really frustrated with this situation and feel like I’m being put through the wringer. I don’t want to hire a lawyer because I feel like it’ll make things take longer, but at this point, I don’t know what else to do.

Does anyone have any advice for this situation? I’m only in my early 20s and never have had to deal with insurance like this before so I’m really lost. I still haven’t been able to talk to anyone about this first accident, the fender bender either.

At what point do I hire an attorney?
