Here we go:
-
I have my own auto insurance policy through company "A" that is inactive/paused right now until I find a car (Car 1) to replace the one currently listed (Car Zero).
-
I am living with someone who owns a car (Car 2) and I got a policy through company "B" that covers ONLY their car, and they are listed as an additional driver. I was told that since it's Michigan, we couldn't start this policy in their name since they only have a Learner's Permit, so that's why I am the policy holder instead. However, Car 2 is in their name (on the title and through the SOS). This will not be used to cover any future car that I purchase for my own insurance policy A.
-
I am NOT putting double coverage on both vehicles. I am simply having a policy from A to cover Car 1, and a policy from B to cover Car 2.
Am I allowed to do this?
Michigan USA auto insurance question, can I have 2 policies with different companies? TIA

Sounds like you’ve already done it, so yes? This is a question that you could simply ask the insurance companies but yes you can have coverage on different cars with different companies though it’s not the best way to do things. Creates potential dual coverage situations. I’m more surprised the other company allowed you to be the policy holder for a vehicle you have no apparent interest in, but as long as they are aware of the situation and approved it, that’s ok.
