I don't drive a whole lot so its not like my tank is going quicker to empty. With gas prices so expensive I purposely only fill it up a little more than half way and leave a couple gallons out. Id probably say I only pay $45 and cut out like $20-25 when my total should be more like $65-70. I don't know if I'm really saving money in any fashion or just making myself go to the gas station more often.

Are you saving money by not filling up gas all the way especially with prices inflated?

You’re going to spend more cause it’s increasing daily. Better to fill at a lower price

I don’t see where this saves money in any way other than you knowing of a gas station that’s a lot less expensive somewhere you will be soon after.

Gas is 6-7 lbs a gallon so maybe 50 lbs of fuel but you’re traveling out your way more often, and starting and stopping more often.
The only benefit is the short term savings at a marginal long term detriment. No more math, just my opinion.

You’re better off filling up. You’re counting on prices going down and not up but with that big fat orange fuck in office no price is going down. You will be forever gouged by him, his cronies and all companies until they’re held accountable.

I’m curious though why do you think not filling up is better? Are you just hoping prices drop? They’re much likelier to inflate even more.

The extra trips to the gas station undoubtedly outweighs the savings from carrying less weight in fuel.

It’s more of a bet that gas prices will go down by the next time you fill up, and I doubt it.

Unless you can predict the future, there’s no way to determine if smaller fill-ups are worth it.

I fill up once I’m at 1/4 tank or so. I just am lucky to have a Costco right next to my work. I use my cash back credit card to get a little bit extra off. I’m debating getting the Costco card just for gas 5% back.

I top mine off every time I drop a third of a tank. Today’s lower cost top off saved me $4.50

I don’t fill up my tank. Maybe 3/4. I am pulling a few extra mpg’s. My thinking is that extra 1/4 tanks weight adds to less mpg’s. Over an extended period it’s added up.

    10. Only time this makes sense is if I know I’m getting gas later at Walmart or Costco. So I just need that little bit to get me through the errands that need to be done.

    11. Back in the day, I went out with someone who thought it was more frugal to only buy a little gas at a time. I noped on out after the first date. The only reason to not fill up the tank today is if you won’t be able to pay for something else if you do.

      there is more to this
diesel or gasoline, also there is B20 diesel or ethanol blend gasoline, and also how often do you have to fill up, do you stay in hot or cold climate?

but keep tank full, don’t fill it after first click.
don’t let fuel in tank sit for months

    13. I went a state over for Mother’s Day and I did hold out to buy gas there. For some reason, it’s always a bit cheaper there.

This past weekend it was about 30-40 cents per gallon cheaper.

    14. I keep mine full and refill at half a tank so its never truly awful. But this? Is awful.

    15. There is some marginal benefit in getting more efficiency out of the vehicle because of the lower fuel weight. I don’t know if that counteracts paying a higher price (inflation) or the time cost of more frequent visits.
