Politics aside, market manipulation is being quite openly and commonly commited by large governments, how does the trust in the stock system remain for the average trader?

Is the impact they make too insignificant in trading?

is there ways to make money regardless of market manipulation? i.e big fish concentrate on manipulating oil and tech, and smaller investors take the scraps in niche stocks etc?)

Are legitimate investors just treating the stock market as a global casino? Or what are other explanations?

edit; Thank you for all interesting and constructive inputs, I will check back later and go through any more comments that have came in 🙂

How is there still trust in the system?

Most people don’t have choice – where else you gonna put your money, under mattress? The house always wins but sometimes you get lucky on smaller plays they don’t care about

Few years ago I heard someone say “the terminal issue with America is that nobody wants to fix anything, they just want to get rich enough that it’s not their problem anymore”

There isn’t much, but many people now feel like investing is the only way to get ahead. I am sure this time it will be different ; )

    7. OP your being here answers your own question.  Why are you here?  My guess is you are motivated to invest and earn a better life for yourself, and having seen outcomes produced by investing believe you can have those yourself.  It’s not that deep!

A lot of more conspriacy-minded people don’t want to hear it but first off even big governments can’t malnipulate the market to any great degree not unless they are willing to either pump hundreds of billions in or raise interest rates considerably.

I think most people here would agree that DT is helping out his friends and family with insider information which they then use to enrich themselves. However, the profit generated is usually in the millions rather than billions. Sure that adds up to vast fortunes over time but when you consider the S & P 500 is worth $61T even that doesn’t move the needle any great degree.

      For example, DT very corrupt, lots of insider trading, S & P 500 growth 2025 – 18%

Previous year before he got elected 2024 – 25%

So, despite clear malnipulation of the market they actually moved it far less than the previous presidency.

As for your other questions, it seems fairly obvious. If you believe big players are going to malnipulate tech/oil for money then… buy tech/oil.

What i dont understand is where the money is coming from to pump daily 5 tril. Marketcap stocks? You see orders from billion dollars. And nobody ever takes some out?

Imagine there was a casino, and with all casinos, the house always wins. But at this casino you can bet on the house winning.

It’s a crazy beautiful money fun house that never ends! Until it ends. Then there is a crash, there is a huge bailout to restart the casino, and they will keep doing that. Someday the bailouts will stops working but until then. Also that future is so shitty to think about it’s better to try to amass a fortune now rather than worry about mitigating it, so no one is, and the party goes harder.

No amount of manipulation in the world can compete against earnings and fundamentals over the long run. That is why there is trust. As Ben Graham put it “in the short term the market is a voting machine and in the long term it’s a weighing machine”. As a trader you would be absolutely subject to the whims of extremely short term manipulation. As a long term investors you free yourself from that.
