It seems that in 100 years or so, the final bitcoin will take a very long time to mine considering the halving protocol. Since the block reward will continue to be cut in half every 4 years, will the miners be working for just a few sats for a long period of time beyond that? With BTC divisible by 100M, it seems like the mining of dust could continue almost forever.

      Yes, the last piece of dust is estimated to be mined around 2140. At that point miners instead will continue to be compensated through means like: transaction fees, layer-2 settlement fees, priority inclusion fees.
