Between the two cards, both offer 5% up to $1500. Which is worth using and which should stay in the sock drawer until September?
OG Freedom and Discover both have gas and public transportation as 5%

Depends in whether you value UR at greater than 1 CPP
Discover also offers 5% at drug stores this quarter so even if you use Freedom for gas and transit Discover can still be useful.

If team cashback it doesn’t matter
Discover also has flights at 5%
The redundancy doesn’t really help me.
If you don’t have a Chase travel card then they both earn the same amount of cash. If that’s the case, then I would prioritize the Discover card when it’s accepted. There will probably be times when Visa and MasterCard are your only choices.
If you have a Sapphire card that lets you transfer to travel partners, use Chase.
If you are planning on booking flights this quarter, use Chase for gas and Discover for flights.
Otherwise use Discover. They have many more options for gift cards at 10-20% discounts.
