I am looking into getting a premium card for travel and am deciding between the Amex Platinum, Chase Reserve, and Capital One VX. I currently have a few credit cards that I have gained over the years, Discover it (first, don’t really use), Citi Double Cash (catch all card), Amex Blue Cash Preferred (groceries… I tend to spend a lot on them), and lastly Chase Sapphire Preferred (current travel card & gas).

    Thoughts??? Is the platinum worth it? Or should I look to chase of C1??

    Which premium card?? (VX, CHASE RESERVE, AMEX PLATINUM)

    1. I would go CSR or VX. VX simple to use. CSR for the 4x hotel and airlines. I would get both and get the subs then after a year decide which one to keep

      Depends heavily on your spending patterns, whether you’d organically use the annual credits, and which transfer partners are most valuable for you. The Venture X is generally the ‘safest’ choice because it only has one annual credit, which is a very flexible travel portal credit on a portal that supports price matching, and the practical worst case value for its points is still unlimited 2% on everything via the travel eraser.

    3. VX for the win! Easier and simpler to use. High floor as you just get 2x for all purchases. Better catch all card. Great protections. Less hoops to jump through. With all that said, get both for the SUBS and drop the one you don’t want. Hell, get all 3 for the SUBS but not at same time.

      I’ve got both the CSR and Platinum, and I prefer the CSR overall as a card.

      Given your CSP, I would add a CSR to your wallet, and also maybe CFU if you don’t have one.

      8x Chase Travel (works great, no issues in 5+ years of using it);
      5x Lyft;
      4x Direct-Book Airfare/Hotel; and,
      3x Dining.
