I recently got fired from my job and my car stopped working I only use my credit card for gas should I only do tiny charges on it like an energy drink once a month? Or what happens when I just stop using it completely?

What happens if i completely stop using my credit card?

Nothing will happen unless you don’t use it for quite a while. If it remains unused for a certain period of time, the card holder can close the account, but it depends on what bank and card etc.

    2. Why would you even need to stop “completely”. You have to buy stuff all the time(food, snacks, drinks, etc).

No reason you can’t use it sometime or another.

I have one cc I use very little(as above).

Nothing will happen. (Pay the bill.)

    3. For 6-12 months, nothing will happen.

After some amount of time (varies based on company and other factors) they’ll likely contact you to tell you they’re going to close it for inactivity. There’s a chance they’ll close it and notify you after the fact.

For reference, I have a few credit cards that I haven’t used in over a year, and they’re just there. Hanging out.

    4. I have 2 cards that I want to have around but don’t earn very good cash back, so I just set one monthly subscription to each and set them to autopay. Keeps the account active without having to manufacture purchases or keep track of them.
