if you’ve been a little more stingy with
    your olive oil
    [Music]
recently chances are you’ve also noticed
prices for the cooking staple are
soaring but why does it cost so much
these days Australia Imports around half
the olive oil it consumes with Spain the
world’s biggest producer they’ve been in
Dr for the last 2 to 3 years which has
seen prices go up around 70% in the past
year to the point where we’re hearing
about thefts of uh olive oil from
    supermarkets and warehouses and all
sorts of things happening overseas it
    means demand for australian-made olive
oil has grown but we’ve also had some
bad weather which has impacted crops so
    what are some cheaper healthy
alternatives if you want you could use a
sunflower oil to pan fry a snitel but
you could add just a little bit of
coconut oil or just a little bit of
sesame oil just to change up the flavor
    a bit

Drought conditions and extreme weather in Europe have impacted olive crops, causing supply to dry up.

As the price of international olive oil rises, chef Kirsten Bacon says are more affordable alternatives on the market.

Recent rain may cause prices to trickle down after Europe’s harvest at the end of the year.
