Books! Four authors I will purchase without hesitation because I need to own them. All others are library loaned. I've whittled it down from candles, fancy body washes, hair salon visits, home decorating. Hobbies, I think are important for sanity, so I do also splurge on adult coloring books (loser, I know — but I'm getting really good at shading and blending!).

I refuse to be frugal when it comes to . . .

    1. Shoes. If my feet feel bad from wearing crappy, vinyl, cheapo shoes, it’s going to be a bad day. So, I got rid of the cheapo and decided I’m worth whatever it takes to be able to be on my feet and still feel good.

Good coffee. We buy it at Costco, but I’m buying the $25/bag beans. We spend $50/month on coffee beans and I do not care, I’m not compromising

Food, not that I eat expensive stuff, but I refuse to put cheap crap in my body. It’s more work, but definitely better than factory made garbage. I’ll be honest though I love instant ramen and eat it at least twice a week.

Hair care. Ex girlfriend told me women can tell from across the room if you use cheap shampoo, been overpaying out of insecurity ever since, but after years of salon hair product . . . I can tell from across the room. There’s a difference between being frugal and being cheap, don’t let your hair look cheap.

Sneakers for my kids. I like them to have a quality well made pair. So I buy name brand for that. I’ll do knock off for sandals/crocs but not the sneakers.

    6. I got burnt by Fifty Shades of Grey, and swore I would never again buy a book that I haven’t read yet

      Flights.

I have really long lower torso and bad experiences. I had to get a points card to upgrade flights. I hate surprises

Coloring books are an interesting way of slowing down, focusing, and playing. NOT a waste if it pays you back with dividends! I refuse to be frugal when it comes to in-season fruits and vegetables. I go to a farmers market and buy the freshest stuff I can lay my hands on. But only what we’ll eat in time, no letting stuff rot because of overbuying.

    9. For me, I have three. Skin care’s the first. I have ultra sensitive, rosacea and eczema prone skin. The moment I try to save any money and venture out on a cheaper brand of anything, it’ll land me right back in the dermatologist’s office. Next is shoes – I’ll buy one pair of gym shoes in a year, then replace them. Last is denim, I have one designer brand I love and their jeans are so soft. I keep it simple so it’s not trendy but will go with everything I already have. I’ve got 3 pairs (total) over the last couple of years and they have not faded, shrank, or become misshapen.

Skincare products, shoes, and bedding. All have a huge impact on my quality of life.

    11. Chicken breasts. I have been spoiled on air-chilled chicken breasts and I cannot go back. All the others are weird and woody to me now.

I blame my sister for telling me about air-chilled chicken.
