Had about 13k saved in an emergency fund that covered about 4months worth of expenses. During the weekend my cat started vomiting, and between ruling out what’s going on and helping him feel better, it’s cost me $3000 and the vets aren’t definitive of what’s going on. Poor guy is still vomiting. He’s going to need another ultrasound that cost $800 and then likely an endoscopy that’ll cost 4-6k tomorrow to figure out what’s going on. If he needs to be hospitalized, it’ll be another 500-$1k night just for monitoring, not including any meds or treatment.

Just needed somewhere to vent. I’ve tried to be so frugal to save, and the money is gone just like that. I want my cat to feel better, so it is what it is. I wish I would’ve got pet insurance.

Had to use my emergency fund for the first time.

    1. Just imagine if you hadn’t had that emergency fund. You’d either have to say goodbye to your kitty or go into debt for treatment. Your emergency fund is working exactly as intended. Well done.

    2. Wow! Over $10k for medical care! We are not a pet family, but I empathize. However, I would like to ask this question to owners of pets…how much are you willing spend on your furry family members? Is there a limit?
