I recently started a new job on July 21st and in my offer letter it stated that my 401k would start after 6 months of continuous employment. When I asked the HR person about the 401K they said that because I started in late July I missed the cut off for January so my 401k will not start until a year later which would be July 2026. Are they allowed to do that? Even though it says in writing in my job offer that the 401K would start in 6 months?

Can employer change 401k start date?

    1. They *should* do what’s in your offer letter. Did you read the plan documents and employee manual? Do. Because they will *definitely* follow those
