    1. Older voters are still one of the biggest voting blocs around, if not the biggest.

Any politician still wanting to run should fear them at the next election.

The government invested that money in it’s own bonds rather than the free market. If they invested in the S&P instead of bonds, there would be 650% more money in the trust fund. But we keep electing politicians who continue the nearly-a-Ponzi scheme instead of going to the Scandinavian model of investment accounts for social security, which results in much better retirements on the same contributions.

    3. Maybe because US Social Security is the stingiest in the developed world, and in the only rich country that has nearly eliminated all employer pensions as well. Kids, you may want to do something about this before it’s your turn to survive on kibble in a trailer park.

    4. Only 59% rely on the payments for over half their expenses but 89% feel the benefits need to increase. Oh yeah those two numbers jive. And no I don’t think the voters that helped cut taxes their entire lives and bankrupted most every city they lived in need more money.

this is something that should be means tested. if you meant to vote for the orange guy who wants to dismantle and privatize it… you dont get it.

    6. Social Security was designed so, on average, it would replace 40% of a worker’s income. I think the problem is with COLA, because that formula was adjusted years ago, resulting in lower cost of living increases.

    7. They’re not wrong. It’s an absolute crime that Social Security payments are this low for a population who have been paying into the program their entire lives. It’s an absolute crime that the US government thinks our seniors can live on so little, with rising costs on everything especially healthcare and medications that often times insurance just doesn’t cover.

And before people start attacking this post that Social Security likely will run dry in a decade or so, I’m well aware about this. This post is specific to today’s senior citizens.

    8. We could increase social security benefits by removing everyone that votes republican from all forms of benefits like this

    9. Too bad so many of them voted against their own interests. That’s not increasing under any republican administration.

Well yeah, it hasn’t kept up with inflation since the numbers are manipulated to show artificially low numbers.

    11. And they’ll still vote against their interests.

      They will STILL

      VOTE

      AGAINST

      THEIR

      OWN

      BEST

      INTERESTS.

Because “fuck brown people and gay people.” They’re afraid of EVERYTHING.
