Hey fellow Toyota owners,

My car recently got rear-ended recently and the other car's insurace admits the faulty and agrees to pay for the repair.

But the problem is that the bodyshop I chose said that Toyota requires safety inspections on seatbelt and SRS (safety restraint systems) after collision. However, this request is denied by the insurance company (they Ok'ed all other items). I am wondering if you have encountered similar issue and if these are indeed required procedures. Any information/reference is highly appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

I seen shops say that safety tests are mandatory when it’s not. Where was your vehicle damaged?

    2. This comes down to semantics. Toyota CRIB #160 is very clear: “In minor collisions where the SRS does not deploy, all SRS components and wiring should be inspected before further use of the vehicle.”

Note the use of “should” not “must”. Toyota claims that this is a requirement, but insurers point to the word choice and say, nah, that’s just your opinion. Their position is that if the manufacturer truly required it, they would have said “must be inspected” instead.

You’re probably not going to win this one. Shop has a reasonable concern that they’ll get blamed if they don’t do it, insurance has a solid argument that they don’t have to pay for it, if this isn’t a “preferred” shop for the insurer the insurer has little leverage to get them to not bill you.
