Hello,
I am inexperienced with car insurance and accidents, so if I could get some feedback I'd appreciate it.
My mom lives in a different state. 10 days ago a lady tried to merge into her lane and bumped into my mom's side of the car. Apparently shes from out of state tending to her sick family member. She's of the same ethnicity and said she goes to the temple that a lot of people from the community go to. Although my mom doesnt know her, my uncle later said he recognized her name and used to know her years back. None of us goes to that temple. But because she seemed to know people in our community my mom believed her. So my mom took some pictures, but not many. The lady talked her out of calling the police and insurance claiming that she will fix her car out of pocket to avoid all the hassles.
We got a quote of about $5200 (cheapest) to fix the side and two doors but when my mom and brother tried to contact her shes ghosting them.
I just wonder if we are basically screwed here? Or what can we do in this situation ? My brother who lives there said that she is back in town and that she has read his last two messages from 2-3 days ago and today and didnt bother to respond back.
Someone hit mom's car. Then dipped after they said they would fix it.

The best thing to do is go through your own insurance and give other person’s information to your insurance company. Save the hassle, the estimate for repair is pretty big anyways.
If your mom has collision insurance; she should use it. The other driver seems like they’re kicking the bucket down the road and will likely just ghost.
If your mom does not have collision insurance; she will need to sue the other driver directly (and good luck; those who don’t have insurance generally don’t have assets that are collectible), and pay for repairs out of her own pocket.
