Hello,
I have been in the process of closing down a corp for a while, and I think it is finalized now since about a year ago however as I have not received any letters back I would like to confirm that it is all in order before the next tax year.
Not super worried about it since the corp was a project that never took off, never made any sales, had no assets, and the last return I filed out with a bunch of zeros and marked FINAL so according to the almighty internet that should do it for the federal level closure but still would feel better if I actually got it confirmed and not slapped with the 400 odd dollar alternative penalty for not tax return come 2026.
But no matter what IRS phone number I call I end up in some strange loop that ends with "that extension do not take calls anymore, have a good day! *click*).
What number combination should I choose in the prompt to get hold of an operator that can check a FEIN and make sure it is not active/properly closed/<insert correct tax terminology> anymore?
How do I talk to an actual human being IRS Business about a closed corp?
