Hi everyone I am currently a bit stressed out because I filed my 2024 taxes late (submitted on 10/19/2025 through TurboTax) and I owe about $855 (I know there will be interest for late filing). I know this is completely on me for putting it off, I'm still learning how to be a functional and independent adult. I went to the IRS website to pay but it says my account balance is $0? Should I call the IRS to see if I could pay my balance or wait until they reach out? This is also my first year filing late and owing, is there a possibility I won't be charged with late fees? I would appreciate any advice and I will be prepared for next tax season and not file late.

If you’ve filed and paid on time in each of the last three years, you might be able to get the late filing and failure to pay penalties waived through a [First Time Abate](https://www.irs.gov/payments/administrative-penalty-relief). The interest can’t be waived.
You can call the IRS to request the abatement, but with the government shutdown, expect a long wait.
You can (and should) make a payment even if your account balance shows 0.
