Edit for title: Do I file*

So around Tax time I received an envelope about a refund, the amount was much larger than I expected so I figured it was a scam. Well I just went into the IRS website and looked at the refund status and that amount is there.

It’s not such a ridiculous amount, just more than I anticipated so I didn’t even verify it (Stupidly, hindsight).

So here’s the question, it says “We received your tax return and are reviewing it. If we need additional information, we’ll mail a notice with further instructions.

If you’ve already received a notice, please follow the instructions.

If we determine no additional information is needed, we’ll continue to process your refund.”

So, do I need to fill out a form to request the refund? Or have they received a request for the refund by me going to the refund section on the IRS website? I did just add my bank account/Direct Deposit to the website, which didn’t have one before.

The reason I ask is I guess I received a notice already, so does that fall under the “If you’ve already received a notice” even if it was over 6 months ago?

Have a refund that I received a letter about but dismissed, so I file a form to receive the refund?

Does the refund amount on the return you filed not match up with the amount on your account transcript?
