I received a CP21B notice in Jan to recollect a wrongly issued 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit. I was hoping it would just be deducted from my refund when I file it this year, but they sent me a CP504 notice for the IRS. I paid it immediately, but I am worried they will take action if the payment takes a long time to go through. What should I expect?

The payment system is slow, and can easily taken 2-3 weeks for payments to fully reflect your account. The payment will be automatically retroactively recognized and corrected to the actual payment date.
How did you pay? If online it is quick. If mailed IRS still processesin a reasonable time. IRs typically sends out another letter before levy. LT 11 and you would have another 30 days after that.
Did you pay electronically?
Yes…
Pay electronically on the IRS website. It should post fairly quickly. You can keep an eye on your bank account to see when the debt occurs.
Also make the electronic payment under the name of the first person listed on the return if you used the Married Filing Joint status.
