During 2025, I have submitted quarterly estimated tax payments both federally and to the state, but I unexpectedly moved from Arizona to Florida during Q4. All of my income comes from remote work (that's located in neither state).

My question is: Do I proceed with making the original estimated Q4 payment to my former state (AZ) that's due Jan 15th?

I assume the federal payment is going to stay the same, and I image that I'll have to file part-year resident in both states. I'm just unsure if I go ahead and make the original estimated/expected payment to my former state (and have them likely refund some of it) or if I need to try and get all of my tax filing for 2025 done in the next few days.

Hopefully this is the right place to ask. I don't have an accountant yet.

Question about estimated income tax payments if I work remotely and moved states during the tax year.

I would send your Q4 payment to Arizona and get refunded if it turns out you overpaid your liability. Florida doesn’t have income tax at the state level.

    2. Will your AZ gross income exceed $75,000 ($150,000 if MFJ)? If no, STOP, you do not have to make any payments.

If you do have to make a payment, just make sure your total Arizona payments for 2025 are at least equal to the SMALLER of the following two numbers:

      1) 90% of your 2025 AZ tax.
      2) 100% of your 2024 AZ tax.

If you have already paid this much tax, you don’t have to make another payment. If you have not, then make a payment by Jan 15 to make up the difference.

You don’t have to file any forms in Florida.
