So my ex and I have been living apart for 10 months now and our divorce will be finalized next year. My taxes are being deducted as a married person and I know if I file separately I might owe IRS money. Not sure how much it will be though, is there a way to find out? I make around 154k (I have also changed my position and in December I my salary was changed to 120k. will that affect anything?)

. Also, I don’t know if my divorce will get messed up because of this (my ex is onboard with the divorce and as far as I know we are only supposed to wait 1 year post separation, nothing to do with taxes)

Went from married to separate earlier in 2025, also reduced hours I work in November. How will it affect taxes?

    1. Its-a-write-off on

Someone making 130k a year and wotholding at the married, non working spouse rare by filing taxes as single would owe about 9k at tax filing time.

But maybe you were withholding at the married with a working spouse rate? Can you check your pay stubs or w2 forms to see what your taxable income was and how much was withheld for federal income tax?
