I was putting in numbers in my online free filing program and noticed it was not triggering a Schedule 1-A, specifically the Enhanced Senior Deduction ($6,000). I then read that the new senior tax deduction is not available for taxpayers who are married filing separately. I have no choice (as far as I know) since my spouse is a foreigner and isn't required to file.
So…why is MFS excluded?
