Hi,

I was an international student in the states from Jan 2022 to May 2023 before I left to continue my degree elsewhere (visa was cancelled). During my time there, I only started working (part-time) at my community college during summer 2022 and the academic year 2022-2023. At that time, I did not know I was required to file. Only recently when I’m back in my country, I received a mail from my bank requesting me to complete the form (W-8BEN). This was when panic set in and I started googling. Google told me I was suppose to file the 1040NR form and the 8843. Considering it’s been years since I left, I don’t know what to do. I was not advised or helped by international student office during that time. I had also only received the W2 for 2022 and not 2023 since I’d left in May 2023. Any advice on what I can do or should do? I’m also a little intimidated by the 1040NR and 8843 forms.

Haven’t filed tax returns when I was still an F1 student – how to backfile?
