I have been doing my own taxes for the past 15 years after a CPA I used in the Midwest got audited by the IRS for filing a bunch of returns with erroneous deductions. Some of my coworkers got audited too but I got lucky and stopped using him.

I'm just a basic W2 worker with no other real big tax issues. I started maxing out my retirement and for the first time in February 2025, took my bonus check from work and maxed out my retirement, including contributing $7000 to an IRA and converting to my Roth (with the help of Fidelity). The issue I'm having now, is I've read all of the community guides, and after a bunch of mistakes, reduced my federal tax owed to $70 (1099-R shows I contributed $62 too much when I did the rollover because of interest I gained). I won't use the FreeTaxUsa pro because I'm pretty sure $40 isn't going to get me good advice. I called a CPA, and was told he charges $300/hr, but doesn't know how to use my software. He is only trained in his software, and he can file everything for me for $400.

How do you go about getting CPA help with these online tools when CPA's usually say they're not trained in them?

Having some issues reporting my 2024 Backdoor Roth IRA contribution on FreeTaxUSA. CPA I called can't help, but will file my taxes for $400?
