Edit: owing *

It’s kind of funny. My job let me go out of nowhere right before Christmas after multiple times my manager had promised me my employment was secure. Now I was hoping to get a little bit of money from my return as I usually do to help with bills but instead I owe both NJ and NY almost 4k😭

I’m not sure what went wrong. I made sure to notify HR when I was moving states, I put in the same W4 info as always single with no dependents. I even saw a difference in my paychecks after the move which I assumed was a result of higher income tax in NY. All my pay stubs show both NJ and NY tax being taken out since moving almost $600. I made slightly less than 55k for the year total I don’t know how it’s possible I owe both states so much considering I only spent 6 months in each💔so it goes I guess

Your allocation to each state is likely wrong. Which state did you perform work in?
